We have fortuitously become aware that Brighton & Hove are consulting on a licensing scheme for non-HMO PRS landlords in certain wards of the city. We let a flat in one of the designated wards. This will cost us £460 for a 5 year licence from next year and will add nothing to our tenant's welfare - indeed. when we add the cost of the licence to her rent, it will disadvantage her. It is, indeed, simply unnecessary bureaucracy. Is the RLA lobbying against this? How can we best oppose this and are other RLA members affected aware of this. Help!
