''A court ruling that certain basic safety requirements cannot be built into a housing landlord licensing scheme has been labelled ‘ridiculous’ and ‘dangerous’ by Hyndburn council chiefs.''

The licensing schemes cannot impose new standards as per the recent Court of Appeal ruling. Case brought by landlords led by Paul Brown and supported by our RLA - well done all!

The council is still winging. Just look at their attitude. 'Basic safety requirement' to them includes fitting a co detector. Where does this 'requirement' come from? Even 'Gas Safe' does not make it a safety condition - good practice of course. But, if you make it a licensing condtion to install one - you are going to prosecute the landlords and give them a criminal label.
