I have two student HMO's in Brighton which I have been renting on joint tenancies with no locks on doors for 13 years. This year some students are requesting locks on doors perhaps because they are not a group who knew each other before. Am I legally obliged to give them locks or is it against regs to have locks in a shared house? I would be concerned abut fire risks if people lock doors / themselves in and also it breaks up the shared house feel. Any advice on the rules appreciated. Many thanks.
