Government proposals on notice periods

Possession - Section 8 and Section 21

Can you please clarify the governments proposal for notice periods. Am I right in assuming all notice periods have been extended to 6 months apart from in special circumstances such as antisocial behaviour. I have recently been made redundant and need to sell one of my properties due significant arrears (more than 2 months). Am I going to have to continue suffering financial losses because I no longer have control over my own property? If so this is surely unacceptable. Landlords could be left having to default in mortgage payments, potentially passing the problem of eviction onto the mortgage company?
