About Kamma Climate
Kamma Climate's home upgrade tool, Retrofit Explorer, works out the cheapest combination of improvements to take a property to EPC C. Small, low-cost measures often do more than landlords expect, and grants can cover some upgrades entirely. The plan shows what each step costs, how much it could cut energy bills, and which government grants the property could qualify for.
The Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES) set the lowest EPC rating a privately rented home in England and Wales can have. The minimum today is E. In January 2026 the government confirmed it will rise to C for all tenancies from 1 October 2030, subject to Parliamentary approval. A home rated C on its current EPC before 1 October 2029 counts as compliant until that EPC expires, so planning the cheapest upgrades now gives you the most room.
Enter a postcode and the tool pulls in your property's details from national data sources. Check the estimated EPC, add any work you've already done, and get a step-by-step plan. When you're ready, Kamma Climate can put you in touch with trusted local installers for surveys and quotes.
