Is it worth getting a guarantor?

I have a prospective tenant but the credit check show 3 CCJ's (he says he didn't know about two of them. Advice from RLA legal suggests a 7 months AST with six months up front, he says a can't afford that. He is offering a guarantor but I am wondering if it's worth it.
