Good Afternoon,
This morning at Wood Green Crown Court, Natalie Heffernan was sentenced for 30 counts of fraud and 1 count of assault. Despite considerable mitigation from her defence barrister the Judge handed down a 27 month custodial sentence which will be begin immediately. Due to the way the sentencing and prisons work this means she will not be eligible for release until at least the end of May 2022 at which point she would serve the remainder of her sentence on license. This may not sound like a high sentence, however with the defence mitigation there was a very real possibility of a suspended sentence and so to confirm it as custodial is a good result.

[...] no compensation order was applied for as means testing showed that Miss Heffernan was in no position to pay any money back and such an order being made would almost certainly result in her re-offending to raise the funds. As such, in the public interest, no order was made. However as a result this was factored into the sentencing and assisted with confirming a custodial period.
