EPC announcement expected today
An announcement on government energy efficiency plans that would see landlords fork out up to £15,000 per property for improvements, is expected today.
Overnight the Government has revealed a £15billion package of investment as part of its Warm Homes Plan, promising ‘new protections for renters’ as part of the deal.
It’s anticipated the long-awaited details of the new Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards for the private rented sector will be confirmed.
Plans requiring all properties to meet a minimum EPC C by 2030 – with an earlier date of 2028 for new tenancies – were put forward last year, with a government consultation concluding in May last year.
The consultation documents explained landlords could be expected to fork out up to £15,000 per property to bring them up to the minimum C, despite many landlords considering this to be unaffordable.
What has the NRLA asked for?
The NRLA has been lobbying Government to go back to the drawing board to revise timescales and come up with a comprehensive package of financial support for landlords – as well as recommending the spending cap be graduated according to the value of a property.
