Crisis call for landlords to house homeless
Homelessness charity Crisis is looking for landlords to get involved in a project to find homes in the private rented sector for those in need.
As part of the scheme Crisis’ specialist housing staff will match you with potential tenants in your area based on both of your needs. They offer a comprehensive package of support for landlord and tenant, including direct rent payments, rent guarantee insurance, and support when it comes to sustaining the tenancy.Last year Crisis supported 750 people into private rented sector accommodation and prevented 102 people from losing their rental property.
Support for landlords
Private rented sector landlords can benefit from a free service which includes:
- Access to a pool of tenants
- A designated point of contact throughout tenancy.
- Personalised service to match the right tenant to your property.
- A hassle-free letting process.
- Assistance with setting up direct rent payments.
- Rent guarantee insurance when needed
- Tenancy sustainment support for up to six months post move-in.
- Mediation and tenancy breakdown prevention.
It also offers a compliance package supporting you when it comes to your rights and responsibilities – as well as specialist information when it comes to things like understanding the benefits system.
Support for tenants
Your tenant will receive one-to-one support from Crisis, including information on their rights and responsibilities as a tenant, will undergo suitability and affordability checks, as well assistance when it comes to forms and documentation.
The charity also offers help with rent in advance and deposit and advises tenants on managing their money and keeping the tenancy going long term. It can also organise mediation and tenancy breakdown prevention, should there be any issues.
Making a difference
Lynsey McAdam is a landlord who has signed up to provide housing through the charity. She said: “Crisis provides a really helpful, supportive and fair service to landlords, whilst ensuring quality housing for those most in need in society. The benefit of working with them is that you can fill your properties quickly, and for free. The team is also easily contactable and knowledgeable."
Peter Moir is a landlord liaison officer at Crisis, who supports landlords and lettings agents looking for new tenants.
“I consider both the landlord and tenants’ needs and will be there throughout the tenancy to make sure it’s a success.
"Personally, when we support someone to find a property, and end their homelessness, it’s a real moment of pride. It shows we’re making a difference.”
Crisis has regional centres in Birmingham, Oxfordshire, South Wales, Merseyside, the north east, Scotland Brent, Croydon and across London.
