Webinar - Renters’ Rights Q&A – Getting ready for new tenancies

Join us next week for the penultimate chance to hear from our experts before the Renters’ Rights Act comes into force.

From 1st May, the default tenancy in England will be the assured periodic tenancy. Our head of policy, James Wood, will guide you through your responsibilities when creating new tenancies, and will be joined by Bruce Evans from our partner, RentGuarantor, to share how you can help to mitigate any risks.

Setting up new tenancies

The Renters’ Rights Act brings in a range of new rules including on written tenancy agreements, advertising and discrimination, and rent in advance.

If you fail to comply with the new rules, the Act provides increased enforcement powers for local authorities, including civil penalties starting at £7,000 and potentially rising to £40,000.

During the session we’ll also cover the importance of solid tenant referencing and keeping detailed records to ensure you can evidence you have complied with the new regulations.

We have created a compliance checklist for new tenancies to help you keep track and prove you have fulfilled your duties as a landlord.
