The new rules around pets in rented homes will be explored in our next exclusive Renters’ Rights webinar for members on 21st January.
This webinar is the latest in a series created to help you prepare for the implementation of the first phase of the act, on 1st May.
What do the changes mean for me?
The Government has made it clear that giving renters more rights around pets was a key priority under the Renters' Rights Act – but what will this mean for you in practice?
The new legislation will require you to consider all requests for pets on a case-by-case basis, with no blanket bans permitted. While you will still be able to refuse requests in certain circumstances, you must ensure that any refusal is made on a reasonable basis. You can read more about this here.
Understanding these new rules – including the timescales you'll need to work within and the grounds on which you can legitimately say no – is essential for staying compliant.
