Hi,
My new tenants (a young couple) have been living in my one bedroom flat for 2 months, & they have contacted me advising there is condensation/mould in the bathroom & bedroom. The bathroom is an en-suite to the bedroom. The bathroom has no external window but there is an extractor fan which is in use. The problem is coming from shower useage.
The tenants are keen to solve the problem, as am I. We have tried different methods to control it, such as air circulation, ventilation, temperature in the rooms & closing of doors, opening of windows, all of which havn't worked. I have used condensation/damp paint on the mould which has started to appear on a couple of the bedroom walls, at the bottom near the skirting board. This will hopefully stop the mould coming back, but hasn't stopped the condensation problem in itself. A small amount of condensation appears on the bottom of the bedroom windows which are double glazed & I have asked them to dry this each day with a dry towel.
I was wanting to ask if you have any other suggestions I could try. We've used the condensation traps that you can buy from any hardware shop but these are pretty much useless, & I've also used an actual electric dehumidifier in the bedroom which certainly collects lots of moisture but hasn't cured the problem.
I'm now lost for anything else to suggest to my tenants, who have now advised that mould has started to appear on some shoes that were stored on top of their wardrobe. Myself & my tenants are doing all we can to try to solve the issue, but I'm worried in case I am liable for the cost of replacing damaged personal belongings due to mould.
I would very much appreciate any advise you can give.
Thank you.
