In March of last year I paid, on behalf of my student daughter, a holding deposit, a deposit and first months rent to a letting agent in Brighton. I also acted as guarantor for my daughter.

I received no copy of the agreement.

I received nothing at all relating to the deposit paid.

Upon moving out a couple of months ago there was a %C2£50.00 deduction, for dilapidations but thus far not specified as to what it was for. My daughter was not made aware of the checkout date.
The DPS refuse to deal with me as the deposit was put in my daughter's name, despite it was me who paid. She received no information regarding the deposit.
There is no address provided by the letting agent (a company dealing with hundreds of students and low income individuals) - only an email address.
I withheld the fact that I was a letting agent and that I am aware of the regulations governing the taking of the deposit etc and am awaiting confirmation from my daughter, the reasons for the deduction from the deposit
It would seem that the company have totally disregarded all legal obligations regarding the serving of notices re deposits and it would seem they are taking advantage of 'students' lack of knowledge.

I wish to take action against this company. Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks
