Hi there,

Tenants have rented property since March. Six months into their tenancy they have said the flooring is an issue - it's painted wooden flooring and they are concerned that it is both slightly uneven and also that the paint is coming up. They have a young baby who crawls on the floor and are asking for laminate flooring.

We've been advised that there is not much that can be done about the lean in the floorboards. It's an old house and the best that can be done is to prop furniture up with some extra timber.

The paint issue is slightly more concerning, especially as it was laid down prior to our ownership and we don't know what kind of paint it is. The tenants knew what kind of flooring they were getting when they moved in and I am surprised that they have not put down rugs or play mats. Nonetheless, I wonder if I should be concerned about the health and safety liability.

Another to add: we did not know they had any children until after their tenancy began.

Is it unreasonable to ask the tenants to find their own solutions? If anyone has experienced a similar situation, I would appreciate any advice!

P.
