The Big Question: Will you be making energy efficiency improvements in the next three years?

Sally Walmsley 22 April 2026

While Renters’ Rights is stealing the headlines right now, it is worth keeping one eye on your EPCs – with major shake-ups planned in the coming years.

All landlords will need a minimum EPC of C to continue renting homes out after 2030 – just over three years away. Not just that, but the Government is planning to overhaul the way certificates are calculated, with a new methodology, known as the Home Energy Model, due to come in next year.

Ahead of the next edition of your members’ magazine Property, we are asking you more about your plans.

What's on the cards?

It might be that your rentals have already met the C grade – or higher – so you don’t plan anything.

With new EPCs now valid for 10 years, you might be considering getting reinspected – to future-proof your property for the next decade.

If they fall way below the required grade, you may be planning major works, or, if you have already invested in green energy solutions, you may be waiting for the new rules to come in. If you have a mixed portfolio your plans may differ from property to property. Whatever your approach we want to hear from you.

To feature your comments, we will need a brief quote outlining your plans, and why you are taking that approach, and a small head-and-shoulders photograph for the magazine. Responses will be revealed in the next edition of Property magazine.
