UK Housing Conference 2025: Your top talking points
The new Renters’ Rights Act was top of the agenda at our UK Housing Conference this month, with 900 of you joining us at Liverpool Exhibition Centre for our fourth annual event.

New for 2025 was our programme of lightning sessions, breakouts offering a deep dive into all things buy-to-let, from finance options to practical property development advice.
Renters’ Rights Act
Coming just after the Act received Royal Assent, it was standing room only at the ‘Are you Renters’ Rights Ready?’ session, hosted by the NRLA’s head of policy James Wood. The most popular lightning session of the day, James offered an overview of the changes up ahead and how to prepare for them. Additional Renters’ Rights sessions, by the NRLA’s policy and training teams, and Total Property’s Paul Shamplina, also attracted the crowds, particularly one on navigating new rules on pets in rental properties.

Making Tax Digital
The upcoming Making Tax Digital (MTD) deadline for landlords was a hot topic, with a deep dive focussing on the NRLA’s Portfolio property management system and a HMRC session on how to prepare. The MTD rollout for landlords starts in April next year so now is the perfect time to get ready. Finance options and deposits
Of course it wasn’t all about regulations, with Doug Hall of 3mc Mortgages outlining current finance options and new products, and Sandy Bastin of TDS sharing lessons from expert adjudicators, giving you the inside track on how key decisions are made when it comes to disputes and deposits.
Market opportunities
Two standout lightning sessions focused on where the smart money is heading. GetGround showed why more landlords are choosing limited companies, with most new buy to let purchases now made this way. Their case studies revealed how incorporation can cut costs and streamline portfolio management.
James Donohue, Founder of Landlord Property Exchange, lifted the lid on deals that never reach the portals. He explained how off market sales, landlord relationships and spotting undervalued rents can help investors secure strong returns before the wider market even notices.
