Manchester landlords' views wanted on licensing scheme plans

Landlords with rental properties in Manchester are being urged to respond to a consultation on plans to introduce a new selective licensing scheme in the city.

Licensing is currently in place seven areas of Manchester, and now the council is planning on introducing selective licensing in parts of the areas of Cheetham, Levenshulme, Longsight, Moss Side and Whalley Range, and Rusholme.

Should the scheme be approved, landlords would have to pay £800 for a licence. The licensing fee would be split into two parts, the application fee and the grant fee which is payable before any licence is issued.

According to the council, there are approximately 3,200 private rented properties in the current selective licensing schemes, and the proposed selective licensing schemes would affect 1,100 private rented properties.

The consultation on the plans launched this week, and will run for ten weeks until 14th December. The NRLA will be responding to this consultation and landlords with rental properties in the proposed designated areas are invited to do the same.

More information about the proposals and how landlords can have their say is available on Manchester City Council’s website.

NRLA licensing support for members

The NRLA aims to respond to all local property licensing consultations. We also encourage landlords to respond to consultations in their area, and we have developed a toolkit for NRLA members, containing information on how to do this.

Members can also keep up to date with current licensing schemes, news and consultations by using NRLA Licensing Support, a service exclusive to NRLA members, powered by Kamma Data.
