Plans for a new Decent Homes Standard and £40,000 fines for serious health hazards in privately rented properties have been announced by the Government today. Ministers are consulting on the new standard, which will be introduced as part of changes coming in under the Renters’ Rights Bill once it becomes law.
Peers debated the Renters’ Rights Bill during Report stage in the Lords last night, in a sitting that lasted more than seven hours. And while it was good news on student lets after an amendment was passed removing the HMO restriction from Ground 4A, the change could still be overturned in the Commons.
