London Connect a sell-out success
Landlords from across the capital flocked to our sell-out Connect event this week. The nationwide series takes our team into the heart of your communities, offering up-to-the-minute legislative updates, expert insight and analysis and valuable networking opportunities.
While this year has marked a time of unprecedented change for the sector in the shape of the Renters’ Rights Act, the mood was one of a sector pulling together to meet the challenges up ahead to adapt to the new legislative landscape.
Of course, Renters’ Rights was on the agenda – with discussions about how the next phases of the Act will be implemented, with new fines for category one HHSRS hazards set to be introduced within the coming months, and the rollout of the new landlord database due from the end of the year.
Changing legislative landscape
Our chief executive Ben Beadle addressed the event on the shape of regulation for landlords, with chief policy officer Chris Norris drilling down into the new minimum energy efficiency standards, set to be introduced in 2030.
With landlords expected to pay up to £10,000 per property to bring them up to a minimum C, questions focussed on what you should do to prepare – and whether to get a new EPC now, or wait for the Government’s new Home Energy Model to be introduced.
Student lets were also a hot topic – with discussions centering on the loss of the fixed term and new rules on notice for both tenants and landlords, and the impact these might have on the market long term.
Our property roundtable offered you the opportunity to ask your questions to our expert panel – with questions on everything from the new Making Tax Digital rules to the issue of vacant possession in a post-section 21 world.
In addition to ample networking time – giving you the chance to connect with likeminded professionals - there was also the opportunity find out more about all the latest products on the market designed to make your life easier, from the latest accounting software to deposit protection support, all while enjoying a free lunch.
