Hi all, I've been a Landlord (lady actually) and member of RLA for 9 years. I don't remember ever using this forum before, though with the wealth of experience you all have, I have a feeling I'll be using it from now on! Back when I joined RLA I had bought a flat with a sitting tenant. Through the years I managed everything myself, which was easy as he was a great tenant, the property was in a well managed building and I was able to access RLA guidance/documentation. A couple of years ago I bought a 'buy to rent' flat closer to where we now live; again in an attractive well located, well-managed building. This time I used a very well known High Street agent to find tenants. To be fair the tenants again have been great. However, I had also decided to pay the agency to fully manage the property. I mistakenly thought that would simplify my life. Suffice it to say, I was very wrong! Consequently, I am now managing the property myself. My tenants are moving on shortly and I'll be looking for new tenants again. I've been looking at online portals like OpenRent, Strike, Doorsteps etc.... which enable the property to be advertised on Rightmove, Zoopla etc for a very low cost compared to High Street agents. I would be very grateful for any opinions / advice / experience anyone might have re choosing an online portal over a High St agency to find suitable tenants. My feeling is that I like/need the economical access to Rightmove that a portal can provide, but I'd prefer to vet my own tenants and continue to manage the property myself.
Thank you!
