In order to reach its net zero carbon goals, the UK Government has decided to focus on improving the energy efficiency of homes by stipulating that private landlords take greater responsibility for the energy efficiency of their rental properties.
To meet the government’s benchmarks, they propose that landlords will need to ensure their properties achieve an EPC ‘C’ rating. The existing minimum energy efficiency standard for private rented properties is a band E, so this will of course be a challenging target for many landlords.
Moreover, we know that a number of our members are confronted with problems relating to cladding, specifically what support (if any) they may receive from government to help them fix any outstanding issues with their properties.
Why we need your help
The most common issue landlords are going to face whilst trying to meet these challenges is the cost of the works that will need to be carried out.
We want to give a voice to our members by allowing a wider audience to learn more about the challenges they face in both of these areas and, as a result, are keen to develop case studies based on our members’ experiences.
Additionally, we’d particularly love to speak with you if you have properties based in any of the following areas of the country and are facing any issues regarding energy efficiency improvements:

- Hyndburn
- Blackpool
- County Durham
- Hartlepool
