Doing it for John - NRLA team to take on 26-mile challenge

A team of NRLA colleagues will be walking 26 miles to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Care in memory of friend and colleague John Stewart.

John, the NRLA's deputy policy director, died in March following a cancer diagnosis last year, and was a supporter of Macmillan, which provides specialist health care, information and support for those living with cancer and their families, as well as campaigning for improved cancer care.

John was well known and respected in the sector, where he worked tirelessly on behalf of landlords and is sadly missed by friends and colleagues throughout the association, who wanted to do something positive in his memory.

The 12-strong team will take on the Lake District Mighty Hike around Ullswater on June 18.

Ben Beadle, chief executive of the NRLA said: "John was passionate about the great outdoors which is why chose to take part in the Mighty Hike, both to remember a much-loved friend and colleague and raise money for a cause that was so close to his heart."

It isn't just the walkers who have joined the fundraising efforts, with David Posiewka, from the NRLA marketing department raising £430 for the charity in a sponsored head shave in John’s memory.
