Your licensing update for June

Our licensing update this month takes a look at the usual roundup of licensing news and consultations on the horizon.

It has been a quieter few weeks for property licensing consultations, following local elections earlier in the month.

However, some new licensing schemes have been announced.

In Greenwich, plans for a selective licensing scheme in the East of the borough were approved.

The consultation for this scheme was held during 2020, but was put on hold as per Government guidance, due to the pandemic.

Selective licensing has been approved in the areas of parts of Plumstead, Glyndon, Shooters Hill, Woolwich Common and Woolwich Riverside. It is set to start on 1st October 2022.

The council is also looking to renew an additional licensing scheme in the borough. You can read more about this and an audit of the current additional licensing scheme in this blog by NRLA policy officer Samantha Watkin.

Nottingham set to consult on selective licensing

In Nottingham, the council has announced that it will launch a consultation on plans to introduce a new selective licensing scheme in the city.

The proposed areas the new selective licensing scheme is set to cover include Bulwell, St Ann’s, The Meadows, Hyson Green, Radford, Forest Fields and Lenton.

The consultation is set to launch on 30th May and will run until August. More information about the proposals is available on the council’s website, and the link to the live consultation itself will be included in the next bulletin.

Portsmouth additional HMO licensing consultation

Portsmouth City Council recently launched a consultation into plans to introduce a large additional HMO licensing scheme, which would cover all HMO in the city.

It is estimated 4,800 HMO properties would fall under the scheme, with an estimated 1,200 already affected by mandatory HMO licensing.

The public consultation is running for ten weeks until July 31, and landlords can read more and respond directly to the consultation here.

The council’s private rented sector team is also set to host a series of drop in sessions starting in June, for people across the city to learn more about the scheme. Dates and location of these sessions are mentioned on the above link.
