Call of the Week: Students moving into properties

This week one of our members was seeking advice ahead of some of their student tenancies commencing again later this month.

They wanted to know if there is any guidance relating to cleanliness and coronavirus they would be able to pass on to their student tenants, due to move into a houseshare.

Landlords should be aware of the government’s guidance on cleaning in non-clinical settings outside of the home. It gives advice on how to clean and disinfect thoroughly and what sort of PPE should be worn and for how long, and how to dispose of it; as well as advice for cleaning in different areas of the property like bathrooms and kitchens. There however has not been any specific advice aimed at student tenancies specifically, but some relating to HMOs.
