Letting agents and property managers can now take professional qualifications in managing property and residential letting via the NRLA’s Training Academy.
The academy is running courses allowing members and non-members to gain two nationally-recognised qualifications:
- Managing Property and Residential Lettings Level 3 Award
- Managing Property and Residential Lettings Level 3 Certificate
Both are approved by Ofqual and accredited by awarding body, Ascentis.
Managing Property and Residential Lettings Level 3 Award
This qualification is made up of four units requiring approximately 110 hours of self-study followed by a multiple choice assessment. Participants will have 12 months to complete the course.
This qualification is designed for property managers who are required to have the understanding and skills to effectively manage privately rented properties. It will enable letting agents to enhance skills and also increase understanding of the rules and regulations they are bound by.
The four units cover:
- Preparing landlords for letting
- Setting up and managing a tenancy
- Property Standards
- Ending a tenancy
The course is priced at £280 for NRLA members and £350 for non-members, including VAT.

Managing Property and Residential Lettings Level 3 Certificate
The Level 3 Certificate qualification includes the units covered in the award qualification, with an additional module on contractual relationship and business conduct.
Agents would take this qualification, rather than the award, if their role demands they have an understanding of the legal obligations of an agency.
This qualification is made up of five units requiring approximately 125 hours of self-study followed by a multiple choice assessment. Once again participants will have 12 months to complete all units.
The courses is priced at £400 for NRLA members and £500 for non-members, including VAT.

NRLA Head of Training and Events, Kitty Speakman said: “Our award and certificate qualifications will offer the perfect introduction to the industry for new agents and will refresh and update the knowledge of more experienced agents already doing the job.
“Designed to be completed at your own pace, the courses offer a comprehensive overview of everything you need to know when it comes to running a successful lettings business.”
