Research Webinar - October 2021

In October 2021 the Research Observatory hosted an online webinar.  Attached are the slides from that presentation along with the speakers' notes.

The webinar reviewed trends in landlord confidence. Landlord confidence is steadily increasing, even in London (albeit from a low base).

The webinar also reports on individual topics on which recent quarterly surveys have been focused.

Key topics include:

  1. Tax - especially Inheritance Tax (IHT) and IHT planning.
  2. Energy Efficiency and the likely fall-out from the drive to make EPC-C the new minimum standard
  3. The impact of the pandemic on Universal Credit (and legacy) claimants and landlords who let to tenants claiming income-related benefits
  4. Pets - a review of landlord attitudes to tenants who wish to bring pets with them to a property.

The webinar also looked at what the implications for landlords may be were inflation to continue to rise. Finally, the webinar introduced the NRLA's recent investigation into the Green Homes Grant and what lessons the government should take away from the programme.
