I have been told in the past that by law, I cannot insist on payment being made by standing order, but for some reason, this year quite a few of my tenants want to pay by cheque. It is really getting to me as they are never there when I go to pick it up and they claim that it is too difficult to post it (they are all students). Surely, would a court understand that if I have given tenants the chance to pay by cheque, and they have fallen into arrears that I can insist that they pay by telephone bank/online banking?
