bad former tenants

A pair of extremely tenants just got rid of themselves by moving out owing 2 months rent, they left 18 bin bags of food stuff which was never put out for the bin men for 2 months, and loads of damage to interior and furniture.

I was too busy trying to get the place back to a rentable state to avoid further loss, when i received a call from police accusing me of threatening the ex tenants via phone call. I do intend to send a letter out to the ex tenants at the parents house where i believe they moved back to, but i have not called or contacted them yet.

What can i do and how can i claim back this money for damage and rent arrears. ?
