This title has just appeared in the current RPI magazine. Being both Landlord and Agent myself, prompted me into setting up a 'Letting & Selling' Agency in North Wales. Wearing my 'Landlords' hat it always surprised me how little effort and guidance many 'High Street' agents gave to assist Landlords making their Let both secure and legal etc. It always seemed that because the property market had taken a turn for the worse this was now a way to supplement the business income. Then when we became 'Agents', it was quite surprising how many 'Landlords' would 'penny pinch' and not take up the advice we gave into making their 'Letting' both secure and legal.....
So I do agree that ALL Agents should be registered, but I also feel that Landlords too must be made to apply all the essential and legal requirements, as some are currently giving the industry a very bad name. Perhaps a recognised 'register' for both Landlords and Agents should be set up, giving Tenants peace of mind that they too have the knowledge that the people they are dealing with are both reputable and honest......
