s21 notice period

I have tenancy for 12 months and will end on the 18th June.  (ie was from 19th June 2023 - 18th June 2024).  When should I serve S21. I am very confused when reading about it on line.  It is recommended that I serve the s21 notice on or just after 19th April 2024 as serving it earlier makes it not valid?  I appreciate tenants might find something either just before ending term or just after which I can be flexible as long as I have a date.  The property is managed by Estate Agents but unfortunately the relation is not good as they are not professionals.  So I don't wont to have penalities on my side.  Thank You.
