Please can anyone advise regarding owning the Freehold and also being a leaseholder. We converted a house into a 3 bed maisonette and a separate ground floor flat 12 years ago. We own the lease for the maisonette which we rent out and the ground floor flat is owned separately (leasehold). There was a joint Freehold in place with the previous leaseholder for the ground floor flat who has now passed away leaving us with the sole Freehold for the building. This is fine as we have always maintained the property since it was converted. The ground floor flat lease is owned separately so we are currently setting up agreements for ground rent, maintenance etc. My question is whether owning both the Freehold and lease for one of the flats is problematic ? I have read conflicting information and recieved different information from two solicitors. We dont plan to sell. I appreciate this is specific legal advice but if anyone has experience of a similar situation and may be able to clarify i would really appreciate it.
