Section 21 during the statutory tenancy

Hallo, please advise re a section 21 issued prior to the end of the 6 month tenancy, and before it becomes periodic.

What I want to know does the date on which you wish to take possession, need to fall on a rent due date, or can it be middle of the month legally. I realise it is possible to make an amicable agreement, but would like to know the statutory position.
