How long can a Section 21 (1) (B) last?
Possession - Section 8 and Section 21

I wish to evict a tenant, at the beginning of the tenancy I issued a 6 month AST which started on the 24th February 2007 to 11am 23rd August 2007. At the same time I issued a Section 21 (1) (B) which expired after the 23rd August 2007.
The tenancy has never been renewed and continued as a monthly contractual tenancy.
There are rent arrears but I'd prefer to use the accelerated possession proceedings.
My question is can I use the original Section 21 to regain possession or do I need to submit a new Section 21 (4) (A)?
