Possession - Section 8 and Section 21

Hiya.

I have a tenant who is 6 weeks in arrears and the 6 month AST tenancy expired a couple of weeks ago.

Can i serve a section 8 as:

1. The tenancy has expired and therefore running month by month?
2. Is it best to wait two more weeks (8 weeks in arrears)?
3. Or can i serve it now and go to the courts in 2 weeks?
