Possession - Section 8 and Section 21

I have created a shorthold tenancy of a house. The agreement is dated 7th August 2011 and is for 6 months. I wish to terminate the agreement as soon as possible. Can I serve a section 21 notice now and if so what is the earliest date I can insert in the "after" section of the s.21(1)(b)notice. Thank you.
