Extension/Renew Tenancy Agreement

We have given our tenants notice to move out at the end of their tenanacy agreement (6mths) at the end of December and they have asked whether they can stay for just an extra month at the moment with a view of possibly extending the tenancy further.

Unsure about the legalities etc. Please advise.....
