I own a buy-to-let property jointly with my wife, and we currently share the rent equally for tax purposes. But I am a higher-rate tax payer, while she has an unused tax-free allowance. Would it be therefore be sensible and relatively easy to switch the beneficial ownership solely to her? If I did so, would I typically need to get permission from my mortgage provider? And is it at all likely that they would give permission?
