3 month assured tenancy

Is it possible to issue an assured tenancy for a 3 month period or is 6 month the minimum?

My prospective tenant is a bit of a worry and I want to just give her a trial period because I am not too sure she can afford it despite protestations that she can.

I do get a good 'feeling' about her character - but that isn't very businesslike is it!!
