Dates On AST

I have always been a bit confused about how to date a AST.
For example for a six month agreement running from 14/12/07, should the end date be 13/6/08 or 14/6/08? Or doesnt it matter!

Finally what should the dates be on the S21 when issued at the start of the tenancy?
