Deposit when Landlord is resident

Dear Helpdesk

Further question in relation to my previous one - if the landlord is resident and the tenant is renting a room/studio in the house - does the landlord still have to lodge the deposit with one of the relevant schemes? I have a landlady who said she was told that she did not need to?
