If at the end of the Tenancy you inspect the property and write a detailed letter explaining any delapidation deductions from the deposit and write I enclose a cheque in the sum of £// //
IN FULL AND FINAL SETTLEMENT OF THIS MATTER.

The tenant accepts the cheque and credits the money into their account. Is that legally the end of the matter?

Can they have their cake and eat it by disputing the deposit return after accepting the money by crediting their account ?
