does a section21B expire?

Hi I gave my tenants a section 21b when they started the 6 Months shorthold tenancy ( which they signed). They have been in for about 12 months and are now getting behind with rent,shutting the curtains and not answering the door etc As the tenancy is now running on can I still act on the 21b or do i have to give them another 8 weeks notice and a section 21a? Thanks
