Decorating by tenant before tenancy starts

I propose to give a tenant (or their handyman) permission and keys so they can paint the walls the colour of their choosing before moving in. I am having a kitchen fitted at the same time.

If they did move in a day or two early, would it still count as occupation under an assured shorthold tenancy?
