To comply with current regs, the detectors need to be linked to each other (i.e. upstairs landing linked to downstairs lounge). These need to be fitted by an authorised electrician and unless you are buying a large amount of detectors, I doubt you will get the discounts an electrician will get but you could always try e-bay to get some idea of price.
