It is often stipulated by landlords that a tenant must not keep pets in a property. A landlord needs to ensure that such a clause in the tenancy agreement is properly drafted, otherwise under the Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999, it could be invalid. The clause must state that permission will not be refused unreasonably, if the tenant applies for permission to keep pets in the property.
