Access from bad unadopted road

I have a terraced house and it has a unadopted road at the rear, for access to the rear garden and house.

A house owner a few doors down has put their own ally gates up and I had a key to them. Now they have changed the lock and will not allow assess, claiming they own the unadopted road.

What is the best approach? I have tried the calm resonable approach, which did not work.
