Changes to Rental payment date

A tenant moved into our porperty on the 23rd of the month. We receeived a phone call from tenant to ask is rental payment date could be moved to the beginning of each month. This was agreed and tenant paid from 23rd to end of that month and then began rental payments from the 1st of the next month.

My questions is do we have to make an amendemnt to the AST as the rental payment dates will now be incorrect. How would this affect tenant when they wish to give notice?

Tenant was found by an agentg and they have said that it is not neccassry to change the AST or even confirm in writing to the tennant - just feels a bit to 'open to error' in my mind.
