I am having a 'gentle' argument with my local council over liability of council tax.

As far as they are concerned a tenant’s liability for council tax ceases the day prior to vacating a property. The tenant would appear not to be liable for the day they vacate - even if they leave at 11:59pm.

I had a tenant leave on 31st October and a new one move in on 1st November so assumed I would have no liability for council tax but have been invoiced for 1 day - 31st October.

I know it’s a tiny amount of money but the manner in which I am being dealt with and their wording in correspondence is almost menacing.

Can any of you fine people confirm, as I suspect, that the council are correct and I owe them the princely sum of £2.47?
