Notice period in standard AST

The 6 months is the legal minimum length of time an AST can be written for. If you have given a tenant a 1 year contract, it is valid for 1 year. I only give 6 moths a time and issue a section 21 notice directly after signing. That way I can choose to either terminate the tenancy, increase the rent of issue a new 6 months AST.
