Stevenage Borough Council presented me with a tenant on 20th Sept 2011 as a suitable longterm tenant and stopped me vetting the tenant saying there is no need as the Council is paying the rent.
The tenant did not live in the flat but went to Portugal and the Council paid housing benefit to the tenant and the latter did not pay a penny to me. I informed the Council that the tenant is not living in the flat so they stopped the housing benefit . I had to go to Court and got possession on 9th March.
I made a complaint to the Council and exhausted their complaint procedure but they kept saying it is my responsibility to vet the tenant. I complained to the LGO but the latter accepted the Council's story but refused mine.
I had later evidence that the Council stopped the tenants application for homelessness in August 2011 because he was a homeowner. So the Council knew he was he homeownner when he presented the tenant to me. Three employees who were involved in my complaint left the Council and the Council promised the LGO that they will review their information to the landlords.
Is there anything I can do now except go to Court. Thanks
